WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY (WOHD) 2023 PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

The World Oral Health Day (WOHD) this year is just around the corner! Grab this opportunity to leave your mark by participating in the photography competition organized by the Malaysian Dental Students’ Association (MDSA) in collaboration with Malaysian Dental Association (MDA), supported by Oral Health Programme, Ministry Of Health Malaysia to increase the oral health awareness in Malaysia.

1. Only individual registrations are accepted.
2. All pictures for the competition should be of original work, using their own idea based on the competition theme.
3. Action based on own creativity; with a theme of photography competition which is “Be Proud of your Mouth. Look after your oral health for a lifetime of smiles’.
4. Not involving sensitive issues including religion, race and politics
5. Action in the picture should be decent and according to society norm;
6. Write a short caption in less than 80 words to describe your picture in relation to the theme.
7. All entry needs to be sent in digital format (jpeg, jpg or png) and should be uploaded via this Google Form or scan QR code.
8. Contestants are required to send pictures with high resolution (240ppi/300ppi);
9. The use of celebrities or other individuals should be consented. Reimbursement of any kind for the photography session will not be borne by the organizer;
10. Photo should not promote any specific product or brands;

12. MDSA organizing committee members and sponsors are not allowed to enter the competition.
13. The organizers have the rights to reject entry or withdraw the prize given if pictures sent were found to be of duplicated origin, obtained through internet or found to be infringing protected copyrights;
14. Participation will be cancelled immediately if picture sent was found to be entered in any other photography competition in the past;
15. Contestants are allowed a maximum of one (1) entry and they are entitled to win only one (1) prize;
16. All entries sent are the sole property of the Malaysian Dental Students’ Association (MDSA), Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM),  Malaysian Dental Association (MDA) and the Oral Health Programme, MOH. These organizations have the rights to use the pictures for promotional and educational purposes such as posters, flyers, books, website etc.;
20. The pictures will be evaluated by a panel of judges based on the judging criteria as entailed below: 

  JUDGING CRITERIA
1. Technique (10%): Innovative technique used in taking photograph
2. Composition (10%): Clear subject in photo, good positioning, framed correctly, no distracting elements that could have been avoided
3. Contrast/Color (10%): Photo used good use of color or contrast of light to dark to set the mood or make the subject stand out
4. Creativity (30%): Photo was taken from a creative vantage point or image was displayed uniquely
5. Lighting (10%): Lighting used properly – not too light or too dark, adds interest to subject
6. Focus (10%): Image was not fuzzy, pixels were not too evident 
7. Adherence to theme (20%): Image attracted attention and conjured a feeling; at the same time is relatable to the theme of the competition

  1. The jury’s decision is absolute and final. 

  2. Any participation should be sent before February 13th-28th, 2023 before 5.00pm; 

  3. All entry means that participants have read and agreed to abide by the rules and regulations of the competition;

  4. All winners will be contacted through phone and/or email for prize acceptance. The prize giving ceremony and photo exhibition will be carried out during an event that will be informed on a later date. 

  5. Contestants who are not contacted within 1 month after the deadline are considered as not successful and are encouraged to try again next year.
